About Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary
Port Stephens Council in partnership with Port Stephens Koalas has created a Koala Sanctuary to ensure first-class care to sick, injured and orphaned koalas.
Opened daily, the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary offers visitors and groups a unique opportunity to see koalas in their natural habitat whilst also supporting their long-term rehabilitation, preservation and conservation in the wild.
We can tailor educational private tours using our local guides whom educate visitors on care, rehabilitation and what is needed for koalas to survive in the wild. Visitors can take a look through the hospital viewing window as veterinary staff carry out examinations and administer treatment to koala inpatients.
A visit to the Koala Sanctuary also incorporates the ‘Newcastle Airport SKYwalk’ an elevated viewing platform that offers a unique perspectives into the koala's natural habitat, as well as a perfect photo opportunity!
